Q: On February 3, reader Justin asked: Why is honey not vegan?
A: The technically correct answer can be found at the following link: http://www.vegetus.org/honey/honey.htm. In a nutshell, "The simple fact is that the bees are enslaved." Additionally, the link points out that consuming honey is promoting gender discrimination: "You may have an image in your mind of a man (indeed, 5% of US beekeepers are women."
I'm still thinking this over...
Q: Reader Julie asked if marshmallow's are vegan.
A: Sadly no. Collagen is an animal protein, so any food made from gelatin technically isn't vegetarian. In addition to marshmallow, this includes Jello-O and gummi bears.
